FDA documents show GMO food concerns

Looks like what we thought was true all along: that the FDA ignored warnings that GMOs were not “substantially similar.” Back in 1992 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration determined that genetically engineered (GE) foods are in most cases ‘the same as or substantially similar to substances commonly found in food’ and thus are not required to undergo specific safety tests prior to entering the market. The FDA has refused to require labeling of genetically engineered foods, despite overwhelming American support for mandatory labeling.

    • I think they will start to, but that we can’t get complacent. We’ve got to stay on top of these things or they’ll just weasel their way back in.

I do think that, if it gets the right media coverage, it will get a LOT more people thinking critically about their food sources, which is a great thing.
